For a while there I was pretty big on Politico as a novelish concept, but as time goes on it becomes increasingly laughable as merely a clearinghouse for mindless conventional wisdom and repeating media narratives (I still like Ben Smith and Jon Martin’s blogs). Take this from that article about McCain gaffes:

Ironically, the errors have been concentrated in what should be his area of expertise: foreign affairs.

Why, exactly, should foreign affairs be an area of expertise for McCain? What training or experience does McCain have in the area again?

Even if we submit that his military record and Senate tenure is principle experience,┬áit would be in the realm of military policy. Now I understand that Americans generally can’t differentiate between the two, but you would think the kind of really serious people who write for publications like Politico might be able to make the distinction.
