So McCain’s chief economic adviser says that McCain understands economics because, by virtue of chairing the Senate Commerce Committee, he helped invent the Blackberry. Except the Blackberry was invented in Canada. So even if you give McCain a wide degree of latitude in taking credit for things that come to be under a regulatory system he was, in some respects, very important in helping to craft, he still couldn’t take credit for the Blackberry, since the Senate Commerce Committee doesn’t set regulatory policy in Canada.
