Jonathan Weisman’s Head Explodes

Just after the Washington Post’s columnist criticized Barack Obama for trumpeting an “old” quote from McCain that the “fundamentals of the economy are strong,” McCain tosses a wrench in the apologist machine by repeating the line this morning!

“You know that there’s been tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall St. And it is — people are frightened by these events. Our economy, I think still — the fundamentals of our economy are strong. But these are very, very difficult times.”

So Merrill Lynch gets bought out, Lehman Brothers basically goes under with no one willing to take it on, and McCain’s response is to repeat that the economy is fundamentally strong.

We aren’t dealing in reality anymore folks, but then, we already knew that.
