I’ve written for a while that John McCain only had two plausible meta-strategies to beat Barack Obama this year. The first option, and more straightforward one, was to massageconcern about his ability to handle foreign affairs. But I think it’s pretty safe to say that the trip abroad, Maliki’s endorsement of Obama’s plan, and the McCain-Bush convergance around Obama’s Afgahnistan ideas have almost entirely taken that strategy off of the table. So all the McCain campaign is left with now is the unseemly tactic of attacking Barack Obama as foreign. So get ready for 3 months of attacks on patriotism, race, family, and the whole bag of tricks. If you need to bone up, here’s your study guide.
