Edinson Volquez

Is amazing. 12 K’s, 2 hits, 1 ER in 6 IP (no decision) last night. It’s a shame that the Reds can’t put a solid lineup or anything together, but things could be looking up. Some of the younger guys look good, and an infield of Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Alex Gonzalez/Paul Janish, and Jeff Keppinger looks promising. But trades are going to have to be made in the next couple of months to make room for the young infielders, to say nothing of Jay Bruce. Hopefully they can add a good #2 starter or real depth in the bullpen. And maybe get rid of Adam Dunn.

Speaking of trades, how cool is that Cincinnati-Texas deal looking now? The Reds pick up Volquez, leading the world in ERA and looking like a real Cy Young candidate, and Texas adds Josh Hamilton, who leads the majors with 53 RBI right now.
